Heritage Days for Schoolchildren at Bánffy Castle, Bonțida
This April, nearly 200 children visited Bánffy Castle, Bonțida, for our Heritage Day activities. During the so-called Green Week, an educational school programme that in Cluj County took place from 22 to 26 April, we organised three Heritage Days for the primary pupils of the Gheorghieni Middle School and of the Kemény Zsigmond High School from Gherla.
The aim of the programme, which has been running since 2008, is to familiarise the youngest generation with built heritage, as well as to create a bond between them and heritage, while at the same time offering them a playful way to learn about the history of the castle and about the lives of its former inhabitants.
The one-day programme organised for 24 April 2024, funded by the Hungarikum Committee, Ministry of Agriculture of Hungary, involved a guided tour followed by a scavenger hunt, where children learned about architectural concepts while exploring the castle buildings. In the tea culture workshop, they learned about the etiquette tea drinking while sampling tea and cake specialities. Finally, the day was finished with learning Renaissance dances. On the other two days of the week, namely 22 and 25 April 2024, the programme included the already mentioned guided tour and scavenger hunt, as well as dance workshop, being completed by a filmmaking workshop, where the youngsters made their own short films about the daily life of a fictitious noble family, being inspired by our digital exhibition Experience Room.
