Local Debate – Dialogue about Art, Natural Heritage and Local Remembrance

The Transylvania Trust Foundation is organising a discussion on 21 March 2025, where the locals, along with invited artists Diana Drăgan-Chirilă, Daria Langa (Romania) and Csongor Szigeti (Hungary), as well as biologist Zoltán D. Szabó, will explore the natural heritage of the Someșul Mic Valley in the Bonțida area, from the perspective of the inhabitants. The discussion is part of CO-VISION, a project co-funded by the Creative Europe Programme of the European Union.

Goals of the discussion

The aim of the discussion is to explore together with the locals the natural heritage of the Someșul Mic Valley in the area of Bonțida, to collect personal stories, experiences, and memories about the village’s natural environment and its transformations over the past century.

About CO-VISION

CO-VISION a project co-funded by the Creative Europe Programme of the European Union, is a collaborative initiative focused on mapping and safeguarding Europe’s natural heritage while addressing the pressing issues of climate change. The project adopts a cultural participatory strategy by involving local communities in the design and co-creation of an EU Artistic Digital Archive.

A first step in this strategy was the Local Debate Workshop EcoArt organised between 4 and 6 November 2024 in Cluj and Bonțida, addressed particularly to young people interested in both natural heritage and visual arts, who had the chance to discover the natural environment of Bánffy Castle, Bonțida, through artistic creation. The next step now involves a deeper exploration of the relationship between humans and nature, by collecting the stories and experiences of the Bonțida locals, thus opening the way towards a more personal approach to the local natural heritage. The process will culminate in the creation of artistic works that will reflect the values of the area’s natural heritage, while also highlighting the need to protect them in the context of climate change. As a result, the finalised digital artistic creation will be available in on the EU Artistic Digital Archive.

The discussion will take place in the Cultural Café of Bánffy Castle, Bonțida, on 21 March 2025, between 14.00 and 16.00.
