Non-formal education programme with STEAM games
On 22 October 2024, we organised a non-formal education programme titled Heritage Day for Schoolchildren at Bánffy Castle, Bonțida, with the participation of fifth-grade students from the Nicolae Titulescu Middle School in Cluj-Napoca.
Tímea Szende Tamás, in her interactive workshop “Salon Culture”, taught the children about the origins and history of different teas, while they tasted several tea types and then experienced the beauty of past customs. The session culminated in cake tasting. Afterwards, they participated in a guided tour led by art historian Zsuzsanna Eke, where they learned about the history and architectural evolution of the castle and heard interesting facts about historical building materials, traditional building crafts and the castle’s architectural decorations. After the discussion that combined history, engineering and architectural information, the children modelled the castle’s buildings, using STEAM games/tools. The 4DFrame and LuxBox games were used for the first time during our training workshop for teachers held in the spring, and now we were able to successfully apply the experience gained back then. The pupils worked in teams and built a miniature version of Bánffy Castle, Bonțida, using geometric shapes and creative solutions.
We would like to thank the children for their attentive ears and skilful hands, as well as for the exciting day!
Event co-funded by the National Cultural Fund Administration (AFCN).
